Pine Ridge High School Reviews

Im in my second year at pine ridge. I havnt noticed any other problems that other high schools dont go through. Teachers do care about everyone there and there are many opprotunities to everyone who goes to pine ridge, people may say its a bad school but most of them never even went to pine ridge or just spent a couple of months or year and did nothing that made them involved with the school or even tried.

I think Pine ridge is just like every other school. The teachers are there for you and acre alot. but if your a student that doesnt care about whats best for you then you dont belong in any school, no matter how great or how bad it is. Im a junior and Im part of link crew and The captain of the Varsity soccer team. yea pine ridge has its flaws but if you go there with a positive attitude then this school opens up many doors for your future. Again it all depends on the students.

While it's true some of these reviews are biased, here's some truth about Pine Ridge. For a start, the school is overly lenient. The dress code is barely enforced, except by the occasional 'old-school' teacher who may just send you out for breaking the dress code. Most teachers however, won't even care until you get on their nerves. The curriculum at Pine Ridge isn't the greatest, depending on what classes the student takes. Some classes have a teacher whom lacks motivation, or the ability to control the class without moving forward and meeting the requirements to develop an understanding of the class material. There are many more issues with this school, but this review's limited to 150 words. Put it this way however, if you actually want to succeed and learn something in a good learning environment, go to Deltona, Deland, Mainland, or some other school. Not this one.

I was senior class president and graduated this year and i could not have asked for better teachers, staff and principal to educate me. My high school experiance opened up so many opportunites and gave some great memories asnd experiances.

Overcrowding, cliques and drama are just three issues at Pine Ridge. It's difficult with the recent budget cuts. I'm a Freshman in all Honors classes, and it's so hard to learn in a class that has 35 chatty kids in it. Many students don't care about anyone but themselves, so they trash the school. The janitors try their best to pick up after all of the kids who never learned to clean up after themselves. Many of the teachers do care, but they put up with way too much!! Fights are a regular thing. I'm happy to say I won't be apart of the PRHS class of 2012. I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone who is very serious about their education.

my school is sooooooo cool, i have to say even though it is my first year at Pine Ridge high it has been a great excperiance!

My son is in his second year at Pine Ridge and we still do not see the problems that others speak of. My son is doing really well and the teachers and staff have been really helpful to us. Its all about involvement and participation. Your success depends on it. Give it a try it might surprise you.

I graduated in the Class of 08 and spent four years in this school. As far as the teachers go a lot of them care, some take it to heart. They do more then what s required in their job especially with some of the crap they put up with. Kids fail because they didn t care and didn t take the chances given to them, not because of the teacher. Mr. Russell are new Principal cares, I always see him every day talking to students or picking up trash. The kids are the center problem to this schools reputation. A good majority are thug wannabes that are rude and do not care and respect other students and staff. The school does not have the needed money to spend on education because we have twice as many janitors then most schools because kids often liter and destroy school property. The school is dirty because of them. Besides that there is plenty of opportunity present at the school, it s all up to the student.

Pineridge is a greatschool overall there seems to be some overall prejudies concerning the ethnic groups. The front desk attitude has chanaged tremendously an does a disservice for and to the school. The guidance dept. is the best the teachers are awesome and should recieve much more recognition than they do. The ESE director takes his job to heart, he really cares about his students and that makes a big difference and a everlasting impact in ones life.

Pineridge highschool has the worse teachers and principal. There is no type of love for what they are doing and they do not care about the student learning dissabilities or diagnosis with conduct problems. If it was possible for me I would not let any parent go through the experiences I had while my child was there.

we have a new principal, Tom Russel, he makes the students and faculty feel better about the school and more spirited. I saw him walking around the first day of school when i didnt know what Mongelli looked like till the last 2 months of my sophmore year and im a senior now.

High school is what the students make it out to be. My own child is involved in a variety of sports and president of one of the clubs. He makes good grades and has not had any problems since he began at Pine Ridge. If I have a problem with anything at the school, all it takes is one phone call or email and the teachers and/or administration get back to me. I often hear from parents of concerns they have about sending their child to Pine Ridge. After years of PTA and SAC membership, I have noted that the biggest problems are from the parents that refuse to become involved in their child's education. They would rather place blame and the school is an easy place to put the blame. The students actively involved in the programs do not get in trouble or cause problems. Its up to students.

The teachers are very rude not only to the students but also the parents. They dont seem to care if the student learns or not it seems like they just want to get them out of the class. When a students askes a question they teacher will tell them to figure it out unstead of helping them with it. Needless to say my child will not go back to this school!

I am currently a student at Pine Ridge. I have to say the sterotypes about our school are fake. Its a great school and if you hang with the right people it can be a great experience. Im going to be starting my senior year and I have to say that this is a good school and they deal with discipline in a great way and yes sometimes the admisistraters and teachers can be too strict and unfair.

After reading many of these reviews I have noticed that all of the bad reviews come from parents who didn't go to school or listened to the stereotype. As a graduate of Pine Ridge, member of Hall of Fame, and senior class president in 2006, I feel that high school is a opportunity to get involved and succeed in your interests. Pine Ridge has some of the most amazing programs in the county such as the Agriscience Communication and Technology Academy (which I was apart of) The Foreign Language Academy, Sports Medicine Academy and many more. There are plenty of teachers who truly care about the students. I can name many who made a difference in my life. My mom, Mrs. Bedard is a teacher who gives everything she cans to the students. If you want to get involved see her she is the SGA advisor. Pine Ridge is a good school.

I had one daughter graduate in 2005 from Pine Ridge High school - she was in the dual enrollment medical program with Daytona Beach Community college, that helped her pave her path for college and beyond, great program! I curently have a daughter in 11th grade, this past year her teachers and staff have really made her blossom, she is now a straight A student, where she has always struggled in the past. I want to thank the administration and teachers for giving my daughter the encouragement and confidence needed to exceed in life.

As a graduate of 2005 from PRHS I can say this about the school. The students there that put forth an effort in the school can get a good experience out of it. Inside the school there is plenty of school spirit on spirit days but other than that the other kids that are there purely because their parents make them go give the school a bad reputation. The discipline is lenient on the things that don't need to be strictly enforced but for the things that do the administrators do what they can. The teachers that get students that want to learn are awesome, however there are a few teachers that get students that don't care so they don't care either. Overall it is a good school if the kids put forth an effort.

I'm currently a freshman. Many pros and cons. -Overcrowded -A little too much disipline -Lots of programs -Classes can be a little long [90 minutes] -Rules sometimes unfair -Not too many great teachers -A little dirty -Many acts of crime -Most people here are nice people -A little more school spirit Overall, I think you can make it at PRHS if you really try. Just go to school and pay attention.

I was a 2005 graduate at Pine Ridge and am now a second year at UCF. Like so many are saying, the school is what you make of it. I enrolled almost exclusively in honors and AP classes, devoted my attention to my academics, and as a result had a worthwhile education which has helped me remain on the Dean's List in college. The school itself is full of it's shortcomings, to be sure, but it's the students and parents that must take the initiative; The school itself can only do so much.

I am a former Student Government President and Captian of the football team at Pine Ridge. I have a younger brother who graduated last year and one more who is a sophomore. Pine Ridge High School, as with all schools, is the experience that you make it. If Pine Ridge is your choice, be an involved parent because if you don't care, then the teachers surely won't. I was in the Honors program and there are quite a few very good teachers at that level. AP classes are top notch and have grown in number since my graduation. In the normal classes teachers are faced with children who don't want to learn and unless you are involved as a parent, there is a good chance your child will be grouped into this category. Mongelli has been trying to go in the right direction but Deltona, as a city, has not.

I am a 2006 graduate from Pine Ridge. I took honors and AP courses and recieved a great education. I go to USF and am doing fine in my classes because I was well prepared. I am pretty sure it is the parents' fault for lack of parent involvment and as for the honors programs, there are not limited spots, people just do not take advantage of the programs. I think Pine Ridge was a great school. My class was smart, hard-working, and had a lot of spirit. All of this was encouraged by our teachers.

As a current student at PRHS, and a Football player And a Cadet in the AFJROTC program, I would say that the school is perfect for the type of person who isent looking for the worst education or the best education, Our teachers teach great, its just the get mad alot.

I am a former student that attended Pine Ridge. I feel that the school was okay. Some of the teachers are great while others let you do as you feel, but as far as I'm concerned I think that anyone could make it there if you just try.

PRHS a good school with a bad rep. Parents need to stay involved with the kids. E-mail teachers, they wil get back to you; that is a big thing with the principal.

This may be one of the worst high schools in this county. The administration cares little or none for these kids. There is no support or team moral for these students. This school is very large. Either my son nor my niece will be attending this school for next year.

If you are not an active parent this school your child will not be successful in this school. There are many academic programs available but they are over crowded and hard to get into. Students then are faced with attending classes with unruly students. There is discrimination within this school. Little to no actions from staff to eliminate the situation. Very little school spirit. Parent involvement is low. On average 4 to 6 parents per class show for parent nights. Seek other school options.

This school is overcrowded. The ESE deptartment is awful Good teachers are few and far between. There is a major discipline problem as well. Looks nice, but looks can be confusing.

Im A Junior at Pine Ridge and I think that the school is alright. Thers a lot of crime in it that gives it its name 'Crime Ridge High.' The school has a lot of cleaning up to do, theres a bit of graffiti but not much. Its mostly the bathrooms that need cleaning

I am an older sister of a sophmore that attends PRHS and former student (grad class of 2001). The teacher quality is not good. If you want quality teachers take the honors classes.

As far as I can tell so far, as my child has just started 10th grade, it appears to be a good school, although overcrowded. Her 9th grade experience was fine, and seemed like there was help readily available, should a student need it.

When my children went to Pine Ridge High it was an avrage school. The music program one of my chldren liked to most. My other child liked the dance program. Academicly I would rate the school fair. Volly ball was alsum. The teachers seem to have alot on their plate and I do not feel communication is good between the parents and the staff as a whole.

Pine Ridge High School has many wonderful academic programs available for students. There are programs for all levels of students. The school has some of the highest AP scores in the district. Pine Ridge offers a variety of sports and extracurricular activities.

I think this school has to be more traditional in some area's such as the length of periods. I think 90 minutes is to long. The children tend to get bored to easily. I feel there is no real homework for these students and that they are not being prepared for college. My daughter says she sleeps thru her classes and still get's an 'A'. I worked in special education for 10 years and my students there received more work in general and they did it with no complaint's. I feel the school system in volusia county is lazy. Thank You Mrs B.

I thik this school would do better with a more diverse fine arts program, and more options for gifted or college-level students.

Not impressed with administration. The school is top heavy with administration salaries. I sadly miss exceptional teachers that have left because of disgust with administration. The best thing at Pine Ridge HS is Ms. Kay Kaufman, guidence councelor. She has been exceptional in dealing with two of my daughters. And because of her my eighteen year old has returned to school and will graduate this year. My daughter had dropped out of high school because she felt she had better things to do than to sit in class and play cardgames all day. Evidently that was a really bad semester. -Martha Kelly

Pine Ridge itself is an OK school. The funding needs to be redirected to possibly include supporting Clubs. As an officer of a club last year we recieved bearly any funding from the school and when we requested stuff there was never any funds to do anything. Also some of the administration is OK but most don't seem to really care. Some of the administration is always hiding in their office and if you go to their office requesting help they seem to halfway listen and a positive result is almost never achieved.

There seems to be one key fact that most people miss in education. It is what you make it. I am a parent and teacher. It has been my experience that the students who are most successful are the ones who have parental support and motivation to learn. Those who do poorly and complain the most often do not even attempt work or attend school. Parents stop blaming the school for your own shortcomings. Be responsible for your children and know when they are in school, when they get progress reports and report cards. Students, take responsibility for yourselves and stop blaming everyone else for your failures. The teachers and administration will help you be successful, but you have to meet them at least halfway.

Student involvement is low. Sschool spirit is also very low. Principal is strong and trying to make positive changes.

Actualy I'm a former student at Pine Ridge. The teachers are great. Well most of them. You got your Kooks but what school doesn't. The adminastators are cool. They try and keep the peace with out overdoing it. But the Kids... well that's a different storie. Pine Ridge has unfairly been labeled as a trouble school. I say unfairly because it's unfair to the Ads. They do their best. But there's only so much you can do against however many thousands of students. My mom is sending my brother to Deltona next year.

I am currently a freshman at Pine Ridge. I feel that the adminisrators at P.R. are very unfair. Just yesterday I saw two students being brought to S.R.C. because of hat violation, while three more walked right by the administrator without so much as a look. And not to long ago a friend of mine was being harrassed by a couple of girls on our bus and she went to the administrators thinking that they would help her and nothing was done. She then went to the principal and only then was anything done about the matter.

I graduated from Pine Ridge in 1998. Since then I have attended UF and graduated with a Computer Engineering degree. One thing I have learned and advise everyone is if you really want to succeed to you have to work for it. I was very involved in high school, clubs, honor societies and I took advanced courses. I also got in some trouble here and there too, no one is perfect. Prepare yourself for college, it is nothing like high school. Take advantage of what they have to offer. I did and I am now successful. Yes the discipline may be harsh, but that's how life is. And it takes discipline to succeed.

I am presently a student at Pine Ridge and I find many of the ways that the staff deals with things is unfair and prejudice. As a 'minority' I find many of 'minority' students do get the harsher end of the deal when it comes to discipline. Swearing is a big issue at our school, I have been involved in a incident where a group of friends and myself where in the courtyard when administrators came by at that time 1 friend swore and he was scolded very harsh, then a non-'minority child came near us and began to use unsoundly words and nothing was done but he was told to walk away. I found this to be very, very prejudice.

I am a student at Pine Ridge and I'll admit the majority of the students don't like the school. But the majority of the students are unruly kids that don't get enough discipline at home (in other words, parents involvement isnt too great). The new principal is awesome, he actually disciplines the students, which they desperately need. If you are someone who has morals and wants to succeed at this school, I highly reccommend taking all honors classes. Most of the honors teachers apply themselves, discipline students accordingly and are also fun people to be around. The extracurricular activities are something you really want to get involved in, since that is where you meet some of the most dedicated people and it's really what makes Pine Ridge fun. Overall I think the school is really great- the only bad thing is the carelessness of many students. If they actually worked to make the school better and got involved- it would be awesome.

Im a student at Pine Ridge. When i entered my freshmen year I thought Pine Ridge was great. overall the school is good. the only problem is lack of school spirit. Just needs a little TLC.

I am a student at Pine Ridge High School with mixed reviews about the school. The teachers and staff are wonderful, and our principal certainly does his best to allow students a chance to learn and still have fun in a safe environment. However, I think the discipline plans are in dire need of help. Students who constantly cause problems and disruptions tend to be ignored or 'let off' while the victims of harassment and violence suffer servere consequences. The school's funding and how it uses its money also needs adjusting. I am amazed at the school's recent improvements, however, and am delighted to see the academic students finally getting the recognition they deserve.

i think the school needs improvemnt on leadership qualities.

I was involved in many extracurricular activities, in which all were strapped for funding. It is a safe school, but there is too much discipline.

I was a student in the first graduating class of Pine Ridge High School and since then, I have been very successful. You see, the school itself can only do so much. It can offer great classes, teachers, after school activitites, sports, etc. But ultimately, the responsibility for learning and striving to get out of Deltona, belongs to the STUDENT! I'm so tired of hearing the cries about this race and that race. This teacher and that teacher....and so on. To all of the students and parents who blame their failures on the school staff, 99% of you should take a look at what you do to further yourself (or your child) in life. To the students, try actually studying and asking questions in class. You have a good school. Simply put, you'll find that the only students who complain are those who do not go to class or don't bother to study and/or do homework.

I consistently get the feeling that the majority of the teachers don't care much about the kids and I have spoken with too many rude people over there to count. When I call the school I always get an answering machine and calls are not returned. I totally dislike this school for many reasons but I pray it gets better for the sake of the 2500 kids who attend.

Overall I think Pine Ridge is a good school and most of the staff is working hard to make it better.

I am a student at Pine ridge. After going there my freshman and sophomore year, I thought it was the worst school ever. But when I moved awya for a little while my junior year, I realized just what a good school it really was. And it keeps improving, since the new principle came f-cat scores improved. I wouldnt attend anywhere else

Honors classes cover most of the curriculum and give regular tests weekly. Regular classes are a different story. Tests or quizzes are not given, kids sit most of the period socializing or watch disney movies, such as Mulan which my histroy class happened to watch 3 times in a two week period. There was no point in learning the material because you were not tested on it, basically kids sat there 'doing their time' so that the teacher could pass them and that they could get the credit and graduate eventually.

Basically im a student at Pine Ridge. The things i think is to get better teachers and rules that we can go by.Most of this students are doing better and proceeding more. What i think about this school.I think i like it alot and i enjoy some teachers there. Also im thinking about the colors of students, Some but not All are races and i think that needs to stop. But for all i love Pine Ridge!!! Go Panthers!!!!!!!!!

'My daughter attends and my son has graduate from Pine Ridge. To my understanding Pine Ridge offers its students a basic education, other knowledge needs be obtained by the student but the student needs to go out and seek knowlegde and have the desire to learn also. I have heard by word of mouth from both my children that parent involement, after school activies, and princpal involement is minium at best. Pine Ridge isn't the best school best but it surely isn't the worst. The new principal has inforced many rules that were already there that many students don't approve of including my daughter. But she still saids that the school is improving. It seems to me that students come home and complain about what they like and dislike about the school and the parents take it as golden word. When both the parent and the child need to sit down and learn about the school. As for people continuing to speak on the fact that Deltona is better they recieved a 'C' letter grade just as we did!

i am both a parent and a teacher at Pine Ridge High School. My child passed fcat with flying colors and i wouldn't work anywhere else. Pine Ridge is a great school and we are working hard to make it even better. Go Panthers!

My daughters go to this school. One just graduated and thank goodness she had at least one good instructor that let us know about her not going to classes and just about failing. Unfortunately we didn't know even after keeping a close eye on her and though she had skipped over 20 days only one instructor sent any information home and only two put comments on progress reports. We know now that each of our daughters will have to get at least monthly progress reports and what we have cut out for us at home. No homework, teachers don't believe in it. Consequently, prep classes in college are a given

I think its a really good school for my two kids. They seem to love the after school activities they are in and they love there electives.

When the students refer to the school as Crime Ridge it is a big hint. My daughter is harrassed everyday to the point where she suffers from depression.
