Altamonte Elementary School Reviews

Overall this school is pretty good. The teachers care about the students and they work hard to achieve the best test scores possible. More parent involvement is needed at this school.

This is a great school. My son has been here since K and is now in the 4th grade and my youngest just started K. I moved from Polk county where the school was horrible in every way. So if you are thinking of moivng in this area this is a great school.

Excellent programs for those needing extra help. Saw more improvement in our son in summer program then two yrs at another school. At previous SCPS we had to ask for everything at AES they offer to help and work with you.

this is my daughter's 2nd year. her k teacher was amazing but overall i am not happy. the administration seems dissatisfied and it shows. they are aloof and never seem to smile for anything. the other dividend parents seem very pretentious and i don't believe the school does enough to foster parent involvement. maybe it's all florida schools, but i do not see any effort to allow the teachers to teach on different levels; all children are taught the same no matter what their level of intelligence. if your child happens to be brighter than the current material, prepare for them to be bored. not enough extracirricular activities that stretch and nurture imaginative thinking. i have personally seen children treated very badly by staff. labeling children is apparent and instead of addressing the bad behavior, they discipline the 'bad' child.

AES is an amazing school where the teachers are experienced and dedicated. The staff encourages parents to be involved. My two boys love their teachers and I do too. Mrs Bacchus, teaches 1st grade and has such a kind and nurturing teaching style that has helped improve my son's reading skills 100%. Mrs Leventhal, teaches 3rd grade and makes learning fun. This is important as the learning material becomes harder the children need to remember that learning is fun and exciting. Dr. Duvall the school principal is always present at school functions and when parents and staff approach her she is warm and approachable. I cannot think of anything negative to say about AES.... 'Where they teach children to soar'

Altamonte Elementary is a great school. If my child was missing assignments, or were struggling in a certain subject, I was always informed. The staff is great, they show that they really care about my child education. Other than 5th graders seem to have a lot of homework, I really like this school, and I would recommend this school for any child to attend.

I think Altamonte Elementary is a great school! We always get the 411 on anything from the principals quill. It is great that you give us kids a certain amount of special classes. I would give this school an extra thumbs up in my opinion! It will be hard for me to leave a great school like this in fifth-grade! I love this school, it rocks!

school was excellent as good as any area school our friends children might have gone to. the staff was always top of the line. They took good care of my child.

My daughter loves her school , she rarely comes home and tells me she had a bad day.. I think it's a safe & fun environment for children to learn & interact with each other!

I have nothing but praise about this school. I find the staff caring about both the students, as well as the parents. My son looks forward to going to school everyday. I love this school, and so does my son.

My child attended kindergarten in this school and I as well as he love it. The teachers are wonderful and the environment is wonderful. It has brought out the best in my child and he has even learned to read in kindergarten.

I think that Altamonte Elementary is a great school! The teachers are top notch & the students like to come to this school.

I was not very happy with this school. As somebody who was new to the area i found that everybody from office staff to the teachers were very unhappy and uncommunicative. Nobody could tell me where to pick my child up, or what happend if it rained or worse if there was a thunder storm. The school is on a major road and the entrance of the school on Palm Springs has no crossing guards. I have never seen the principal so can not say what she is like.

My son just started kindergarten august 2005.Academic wise its great they test kids every month to see how they have progressed plus have the parent get involved also and give you as a parent updates and improvements. This is just kindergarten. The teacher is very caring and tough at the same time and also get daily updates on kids performance and attitude for the day.Could not ask for anything more from this school.I grade it a A+.

AES encourages parental involvement, from eating lunch with your child to leading a specialized academic group. My daughter is in the gifted program which meets a full day each week. They have gone on many enriching field trips and performed plays each year. In the regular classroom she is encouraged and allowed to complete special projects which fit her interests. I have been very pleased with the teachers in the homerooms and the 'specials' teachers. The E-Lab program is outstanding, and the kids go along at their own pace, which suits high and low achievers equally well. the only thing negative I can mention is the condition of the cafeteria bathrooms. Overall, I would recommend AES to everyone!

I was dissapointed to learn that their idea of physical education was sitting and watching a movie. I am very happy with my daughter's 3rd grade teacher (Mrs. Heller). She's great. They think that the security at the school is great but in reality it is a pain for the parents and if somebody really wanted to get in they could. It's a sad day in history when the parents have to complete a background check in order to chaperone their childs field trip. We need to give teachers the power to teach discipline to the kids that aren't getting it at home. Prepare them for the real world from the beginning.

I feel there is a disproportionate number of female to male teachers and administrators. (0 male) In today's single parent homes the children would benefit from interacting with male role models who stress education and family values and not MTV's version...whatever that is.

I believe there is a big need of ESOL teachers and ESOL Specialists because of the large Hispanic population.

I feel that there should be more parental involvement at Altamonte Elem. As a dividend there , I see the need for as many parents as possible getting involved. It seems the same parents are always the ones helping out. Our school is very racially diversified and I would like to see more parents try to spend time in the school to understand some of the discipline problems that arise. The teachers only have a certain number of hours that the child is actually in the classroom learning and to have to spend that time on discipline problems is a sad shame. The parents don't realize how much time that takes away form the other students.
