Lyman High School Reviews

Lyman High School is everything a student and parent could ask for. The opportunities to excell academically are limitless. With programs like the 'Institute for Engineering', 'Teacher Internships' and 'On the Job Training', Lyman High offers a more un-conventional ways to educate and prepare you for life after k-12. They also host a pre-school program where students interested in a career in education can take a course and learn hands-on. OH! And their athletics are awesome. Football games and pep rallys unite the school and the community. A++++

I am a student of longwood and I love longwood. THe enviroment is so friendly, especially the people, and they give you some great activities that keep you focused and busy. I give this school an A.

Lyman High School has been touted as 'Seminole County's Best Kept Secret'...I tend to agree with this assessment. As aq parent who has become very engaged with the marching band program at Lyman, I've had a chance to interact with many of the administrators, parents and students and I have to say that Lyman truly exemplifies the concept of community. The Lyman spirit is definitely spreading and we're all part of something very special.

I think this is a great schoo. It not only offers an abondous amount of electives and opprtunities (The Engineering Program), but it also contains an incredible staff of teachers and guidance counselors. I believe that I am very priveledged to be at this school, and nothing would make me more proud than to know that i graduated at Lyman High School of Longwood, Florida.

Absolutely outshines it's somewhat understated reputation. Student bonding is incredible, and unlike some other high schools in Seminole County, Lyman's reputation and student body are one in the same: Fresh, honest, and together. Nothing phony about Lyman.

Lyman is a wonderful school there are so many clubs to get involed in. overall A-

Good school. Lots of things to do and it is overall a safe and kind enviroment. Although the 2006-2007 schedule is a complete mess and the rules are too harsh along with the tardy/absent policy it is too strict for a Public School. I could understand if it is a private school and we were paying to go to Lyman(yeah right) but it is too much.

I am a current student at lyman and i think that it is a good school. not great but good. The teachers are pretty good, but there is alot of segregation among the students. and the principal is 'ok'. there is alot of room for improvement but the school is in pretty good condidtion. i like it here so far.

This is a top notch school. I say this as a PTSA board member for all four years my daughter ahs attended. She'll graduate as a senior this year, and we can honestly say she has been encouraged to be the best she can, and to take advantage of every opportunity the school has to offer. She's been encouraged and challenged to take AP classes (more are available at Lyman than any other school in the district), with AP Psycholgy as the best Lyman has to offer. She's been given leadership opportunities, has participated in athletics, internships, and work study. The help from the guidance staff towards her college aspirations has been terrific. With the support of parents, a student can reach their potential. Even after my daughter graduates, I look forward to continuing my support for this school as a participant in the Seminole County Teach-In.

Both my children have gone to ANLC since they were 5 years old. ANLC is a school where the children come first. Each child is encouraged to do their personal best without being labeled as the smart or dumb kids. The teachers are highly skilled and work hard to bring out the best in each child. The principal is kind and knows each child by name. She is a great example of a leader and I will miss seeing her everyday as my daughter graduates this year. Thank you ANLC for bringing out the best in my children and giving them the encouragement and confidence they need to go out into the world!

I am a current student at lyman high school and I love it here. It's a great environment and multicultural. The teachers are good, the sports are fine. I think the rules are a little too strict. It was better last year.

I feel that this is a very good school. I also feel that this school did not provide my child with the experience with exams for college.

I have two children that graduated from Lyman. Prior to them attending there, we had considered moving due to many things I had heard. I am so glad that we didn't move since both my children received an excellent education at Lyman.

My child loves this school! The teachers are great, staff is friendly and the technology is top notch. The reputation is horrible but when you look past the surface you'll see a genuinely great school.

The teachers seem to really care about the students. I like the fact that the students can choose from AP and Honors classes or standard classes. There are lots of extracurriculuar activities at Lyman. The dance team is really good for as young as it is.

Easily surpasses minimal academic requirements for a public High School.

Lyman has offered me the experience of a diverse and accepting environment like none other, and also the opportunity to choose from many different clubs, sports, and leadership positions. It is the only school in Seminole Co. with as many Advanced Placement courses offered and the greatest AP English pass rate. If there's anything to be said about the greyhounds it is that we convey acceptance and warmth to anyone who might venture through. As a member of the yearbook staff, I had the opportunity to sit down and formally interview Mr. Casillo, our principal; not only is he dedicated and hardworking, he has become part of Lyman. During the interview I asked him how Lyman compared to his former school, Lake Mary High. I was not shocked to hear him say that 'the kids at Lyman are more inviting & would approach [him] with ease... it is a lively atmosphere.'

My son graduated and I have a senior at Lyman now. My experience has been very positive. My son had difficulty in some academic areas and I was kept up to speed on his progress by all of his teachers. The extra time they took to ensure his success was appreciated. He benefited greatly by their outstanding JROTC program and went through the Auto Tech Prep program. He continued at S.C.C. and is workinig in the field today. I believe this was possible because of the commitment to all students that Lyman exhibits. My daughter's experience has been great. She has participated in 3 varsity sports and cheerleading and maintains a 3.3 GPA. The extra 'alpha' period offered helps many students to brush up on skills. I have always had my e-mails and phone calls answered within 24 hours, even when I sent an e-mail to one of her teachers over the summer break! Lyman is the 2nd smallest school (enrollment) in Seminole County and the student/teacher ratio is one of the best. I feel like I am getting a private school education at my local public school! Overall, I think the school is great.

I have had two children graduate from Lyman and have an incoming freshman this year. Lyman has been a good school, and the kids have enjoyed going there. My 2nd to graduate there waivered back to Lyman from another area high school because she liked it so much. The one going into Lyman this year is excited about school and full of plans. I know Lyman will encourage his dreams and welcome him into the school.

My daughter and son went to Lyman. While I was involved at the school and with the activities I did not feel the counseling area was the best. It was like the counselors would say what you wanted to hear opposed to good solid suggestions and guidance. It took forever to get calls back. The instructors were ok but not many exceptional in my opinion. All instructors would take make up work from a whole session and that seemed crazy to me. Spelling and grammar didn't seem to mean much. The biggest complaint I heard and of course didn't want to hear was how overloaded they were with students and classes so consequently I felt like even though my children could use help the instructor couldn't find time to help. They did have exceptions to this rule and even though it may not seem it we as parents really do appreciate the notes, the e-mails, and feedback from the instructors who take the time to do it. With things going on today, and our children supposed to be at school during the day if it is not happening some of us really want to know and will make an attempt to stop it. Thanking those who care and letting those who feel like parents don't care we do and if we neglect to tell you shame on us.
