Oviedo High School Reviews

I will be attending next year, I need to know what it's like.

Great School - Lots of potential to be the best in the greater Orlando area.

I graduated from Oviedo High School and I loved it the whole time. Oviedo has all around awesome sports and the principal is the best, he really cares about every one of his students and teachers.

Overll great school. Due to community involvement and parental volunteering and teachers taking pride in the school. The administration is the weak link. So long as you are in lock-step you have 100% access. If you ask questions or propose a different method, they border on paranoia.

We are the parents of a current freshman. The quality of academics is exceptional. Extra-curricular activities are abundant and diverse. The parent involvement is incredible. There is standing room only at every event parents can attend. My daughter's teachers have all taken the time to address her individual concerns making this one of her most challenging and rewarding years. She is involved in numerous extracurricular activities, and she has made an incredible amount of friends. Every time I have visited the school everyone from the administration, to the teachers to the students have been polite and respectful. We visited private schools in the area, but Oviedo High School offered more, especially for a gifted student, than any of the area private schools. OHS is currently undergoing several million dollars in renovations. My daughter is thoroughly enjoying high school - which makes our lives so much easier. Go Lions!

Parent involvement is astounding it's standing room only when the school invites the parents. The teachers are very, very good, interested, educated and motivated. My son graduated and my daughter is there now. Having gone to decent schools in Long Island, New York in the ate 60's early 70's, Oviedo High is better than those schools which I would consider better than shools today. Oviedo High is a top notch qualit education and a very good atmosmphere, I don't think you can get much beetr anywhere in the country.

My son's high school years at OHS have been the best, he has gained confidence from so many teachers! Every instructor I have ever contacted has been very quick to respond to my inquiries. The 'PIN Access' system is great (thank you for participating)! The instructors are easily approachable by email or phone. My son has been part of the OHS LIONS football team for several years - the team/school spirit has been fantastic & an inspiration! As my son son leaves for college next year, I know his years at OHS will always remain a fond part of his life. I feel he is ready for the next stage of his life. OHS & the OHS LIONS-we will keep you in our hears! Sincerely, Sheila Mace

I have 3 kids at Oviedo High. OHS has been a great experience. You get out of it what you put into it. My kids couldn't be happier. Wonderful school, great principal!

My 3 children have attended OHS from 94 to-date. My daughter is currently a junior. The academic level is good, however I do have complaints about the administration (not the teachers). Administration is often difficult to reach and I've found some of them to be curt with me. My kids have all said the office staff is often rude. Additionally, 2 of my kids have had the same guidance counselor because the counselor is assigned by alphabetical listing of your name. That should be rotated, as we have not been very happy with our counselor. She rushes & is not thorough with explanations. The administration should be more conscious of how they speak not only to the kids, but to the parents. Col Nardo & NJROTC is great!

There is an awful lot of wasted time on things like movies, etc. Some teachers (more than a few) are into their own egos rather than helping students succeed. Asst principals always back them up.

Oviedo High School is the best in the area.

This is a top quality school. They strive to be the best, and the administrators push the faculty hard to make that their goal. I think this school is great.

We moved to Oviedo so my daughter could attend Oviedo H.S. and we couldn't be happier. She is now a Junior and with the incredible Honors and AP class selection to choose from, she is staying challenged while earning college credit. She is also involved in NJROTC which is developing her leadership skills for the future. We made a wise decision sending her to a school where parents and teachers are making such a big difference!

This school has such a great hometown quality to it and the teachers are some of the best in the state, if not the country. The teacher/student ratio is still great, and now with the addition of Hagerty High, we now have choices that we didn't previously.

The teachers seem very organized and helpful. The overall quality of teachers seems good.

there's great clubs& academics.

Oviedo has been (as long as I have known) a A+ school. The teachers are educated over and above the average (schools in Seminole/Orange counties). My son plays football at OHS & they have a state-of-the-art weight training building. Just like the one at UCF. OHS always encourages parent's involvement; their teachers and administrative staff are always available to help you (or your child) in any way. My son is on the A-B honor roll & loves all his teachers...so do we!

As a parent and also a teacher at OHS, I have a different perspective. When I started at OHS in 2000, I knew it was a 'good' school. My son was a junior, involved in NHS and Cross Country, and my daughter a freshman, involved in Mu Alpha Theta, NHS and a drum major. After teaching here 5 years, I believe OHS is THE BEST SCHOOL IN THE CENTRAL FLORIDA AREA. Both my children were so prepared for college. In fact, my daughter started at FSU with 48 AP hours. I cannot say enough to express my true feelings about the quality of the education a student receives when graduating from Oviedo High School. If you are considering moving to Oviedo, I hope you are able to purchase a home in the OHS school district. We are truly the 'Home of Champions and Scholars.'

Wonderful parental and community involvement.

Very fast paced school. Find it hard to get in to see the staff without an appointment which can be frustrating at times. Teachers sometimes take a long time to get back to you if at all. Older school, could use some remodeling.

I have had two students at oviedo, one graduates this year. It has been a wonderful experience for all, including my husband & I. The high school community is very caring and the administration is exceptional. My kids loved the sports programs and many of their teachers. The only thing I might suggest is to follow thru on the conduct policies better.

A little dissapointed with the administration. Seem to support their staff more than listening to concerns from parents and students. Many times it takes 2-3 calls before you get a return call. Extremely overcrowded school. Think this is a good deal of the problem. Have had problems with theft and vandalism of students property (PE lockers broken into and items stolen a few times, vehicle damage in parking lot). Lunch is terribly overcrowded to the point where students can't get through the lunch line before times up. Think things will get much better once the new Hagarty High opens in fall of 2005 to help ease the overcrowding. School could use some updating. Bathrooms are disgusting and dirty.

I'm in all honors and AP calsses and I find the curriculum to be idiotic and the children to be uninvolved. The teachers do try their bests but in an environment where there is no response from those drains on society that call themselves students I imagine it would be indeed hard to have a discussion based class.

OHS is a great school atheletes are not getting turned away there are many different teams varsity Junior varsity and freshman teams not to mention second strings that go up to 7-8 and the school overall in education is really well most kids do well but some parents complain to much about this school when this is a great school

I am a former student of OHS, and recently moved out of state. No other school in my area(which is supposed to have 'great' schools) can match up to OHS. I played sports for OHS and think that OHS does a great job in school spirit, good sportsmanship and just playing the games. Also, I think OHS has some of the best teachers. The teachers are always ready to help you learn, in a way you understand. I personally feel that OHS is an awesome school!

My children did not do well here, so I was shocked to see that this school recieved an A. We moved and my children started attending a diffrent high school where they were much more succesful, however their new high school only rated a C. I guess it all depends on the child.

One of the best schools in the state of Florida! My children have gone to Oviedo High and I highly recommend it to anyone. The Academics is high and the Sports are one of the best in the state. The City is one of the best places to live. Go Oviedo!

I understand that OHS has an excellent sports program, but have heard many complaints about the coaches for baseball and basketball in the treatment of the students.
