Hiawassee Elementary School Reviews

I have had the privalege of being at the forfront of the Partners in Education program with Hiawassee and find Ms. Jackson and her staff to have the hearts of true dedicated professionals and they have their sights set on improving the school and the students because they know that these young minds are the future of our community and our nation. They deserve our help and appreciate everything that is done for them. They take responsibilty for the children that is rare, even among some parents.

Hiawassee is a very challenging school due to it's demographics, but with the support of fellow teachers, the challenge is worth the effort.

Hiawassee Elementary School is a great place to work! The administrators are very supportive and all of the faculty and staff work together to make our school feel like a family! My students are excited about learning and I am proud to be their teacher!

The past 6 months or so have been really great at Hiawassee. Last year ended on a high note, and this year started with a different feeling in the air. It really seems like the staff and administration have everyone on the same page, doing what is best for the kids. I like that they are starting to have uniforms at the school. If the school can continue to grow and involve the community I think it will be a great place for our kids to go to school.

Hiawassee is lots of fun! There are so many educational events and activities for students to get involved. I really miss be a student at Hiawassee. The teachers are so helpful and take time to get to know you. I volunteer at the school when ever I can.

My daughters love the teachers at Hiawassee. The atmosphere is friendly and I feel welcomed as a parent.

I feel that the adminstrators and teachers at Hiawassee Elementary go above and beyond the call of duty for students. My daughter attends Hiawassee and I personally have had nothing except great experiences. If Parents were more involved then Hiawassee would be a much better school.

I find the programs to be sub par at best. I actually provide my daughter with homework assignments because she rarely has any otherwise. I feel that the school encourages mediocrity and the trouble stems from the ineffective leadership of its principal. I feel sorry for the students who do not have access to assistance from either a parent or an older sibling. The children at Hiawassee Elementary are definitely NOT being prepared for a successful educational future. I feel that it is unfair my daughter is not being educationally challenged because we live in the wrong zip code. I have volunteered on numerous occasions and was discouraged from doing so after I started questioning the lack of heat in the portable my daughter and 17 other kindergartners were in. The principal does not make herself readily available and when my daughter was assaulted by another student she refused to address it.

The school has inadequate leadership and it shows. The educational expectations for students at this school appear to be very low. I see the parents there trying to get a multitude of issues resolved to no avail. If there are any events at the school parents are typically given 24hr notice (makes it difficult to request time off work). The information that I have personally received in writing often went out w/o the correct date forcing me to contact the school for clarification. There is an overall lack of order that I find disconcerting. I have volunteered in my child's class and found the principal's communication skills to be lacking at best.
