Hebrew Day School Reviews

I have been extremely pleased with the education my daughter has received at HDS. In addition to strong secular and Judaic curriculums, she is also exposed to weekly art, music, library, technology, P.E., and gymnastic classes. The teachers and staff are amazing - each year she falls in love with her teacher. I can't imagine a better elementary experience and strong academic base for my child.

Both my children have benefitted from the excellent, well-rounded education they have received from HDS. The faculty and administration really go the extra mile to see that every student reaches their potential. A great place for whole-child growth/maturity.

What could be better than a school that educates children through a strong academic curriculum and the values of Judaism? I wouldn't send my child anywhere else.

Second to none secular education with a well rounded Judaic education. Our son attended K-8th and move on to Lake Highland and was well above grade level at entry.

What a fabulous school! The curriculum is creative and challenging. Teachers use all of their resources to provide these kids with a well rounded education. The technology at HDS is unbelievable. No other school in the area can compare. On top of the incredible secular education, our kids are learning to read Hebrew and study Judaism in a fun, creative environment. I think our kids are very lucky to be able to attend the Hebrew Day School

My biggest disappointment was the Judaic program is extremely weak. When I arrived I was told there were 12 hours a week of Judaica but in fact there is much less. Students are admitted at any grade regardless of Judaic background/knowledge that makes Judaica teaching impossible no matter the qualifications of the instructor due to the diverse levels in one class. Parental involvement is encouraged but parents are not taken seriously and their complaints are usually ignored.

I think the quality of academic programs is excellent. The teachers are all highly qualified and concerned about my childs education.

HDS has seen its better days (if it had them). There are many better choices in Orlando. You will do yourself a great service if you choose either Lake Highland or Park Maitland for your kid's education. As another parent wrote, discipline (or lack thereof) has become a major problem. Due to the fact that so many student's parents work at the school or the parents are donors, the principal is afraid to approach the parents about the child's behavior. The administration is either ignorant to the situation or too arrogant to believe there are any problems at the school. I believe it is both! Parents find that their children are academically behind when they leave HDS but they are simply too afraid or naive to speak up. I am just 1 voice but I have spoken to and heard this same critique from others.

Here is the bottom line with HDS. We have had our child there for 4 years. It is good for the gifted student. If your child is not motivated, they will get by with a mediocre education. We have spoken to both admission directors at Lake Highland and Trinity and they told us frankly that the HDS education is not on par with other private schools. I do appreciate the time spent on Hebrew and Judaica but it puts the HDS kids at a disadvantage when competing with other kids. Another fact is that HDS students take the SAT which is not a good standardized test because it groups the scores with all kids not the group of kids applying to Lake Highland or Trinity. HDS is the only school that takes the SAT instead of the Iowa Test which is graded against other private school peers. This leads to inaccurate scoring.

Very disappointed with the school. Poor academics, lack of disciple, unfriendly people.

I have been very happy with HDS. The teachers are qualified and always ready to help if your child needs it. I am so glad that I picked HDS - the middle school is fantastic and I highly recommend any Jewish child to attend. Our director, Mrs. Cohen is the best!

We were very disappointed with the school, when we moved my child had to be put back a grade. Very poor quality of teachers, not a friendly group of administrators or parents.

I am very pleased with our experience at the Hebrew Day School. We have one in Middle school and one in Elementary. Both are receiving a well rounded education. I also like the warm family like atmosphere in the school.

My 3 children attend HDS. One is in 1st, one in 3rd, and the other in 5th. Not only do my children love school, they have also had an outstanding education. Their academics are top notch. The teachers are loving, creative and motivating. They have high but reasonable expectations for the children. Luckily we share the campus with the JCC so there are many after school activities, sports, music and art lessons offered daily. In these times it is so nice to be at a school that truly knows my children and our family. More importantly, they teach them such wonderful values. My children look at the world with such a caring and compassionate heart. Every Jewish child should go to this school. What a wonderful connection to our community. I know that they will be so successful in many different ways when they go out into the world!

The Hebrew Day School is a gift every Jewish parent should give their child. State of the Art Technology is incorporated in all aspects of the curriculum. Warm, Intelligent caring teachers. A wonderful new Hebrew/Judaic curriculum with fantastic teachers to teach it from grades K-8. The administration took parents advice and the hot lunches are healthy and nutritious. Both of my children wake up with a smile on their face knowing they will have a great day, Parents are welcome and an active part of the HDS community.

Unorganized curriculum, weak language arts program, individualized instruction not implemented very well, especially in primary grades. Discipline problems are overwhelming. Frustrated teachers and controlling parents.

Many behavior problems, underqualified teachers, unhealthy lunch desserts (chips, cookies) overweight kids, small class sizes but no more attention per student than a larger class, rude hebrew teachers. New Pricipal might make positive changes. She seems determined to fix the problems.

Level of parent involvement is high. Academics/curriculum are not consistent. Teachers very caring, but very stressed.

I can't imagine a better school for my children despite the fact that I was raised christian. The teachers are top notch, the academics are high yet there is still an emphasis on 'being a child'. School offers state of the art technology in a warm and friendly environment. I can't say enough wonderful things about the school, teachers and parents.

I can't imagine a better school for my 4 children. The teachers, academics, parents - everything is top notch! I can't say enough wonderful things!

This school has the higest standards for its students and families. It is very community minded, and a wonderful atmosphere for learning and growing. You know that all the Staff really care. We highly recommend this school!!
